A 13 x 19 dark walnut, wood framed photograph.Price: 45.95 Photograph is of some of the wild ponies that live on Assateague Island, a bridge away from Chincoteague Island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia as they head toward a corral for a visit with their “doc.” Assateague Island, home of the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, attracts more than 1.5 million visitors a year. People come from all over the world for birdwatching, to see the wildlife and the famous ponies, and to enjoy the white sand beach along the Atlantic Ocean. Thousands of visitors come to Pony Penning which is held the last week of July each year. At Pony Penning the foals are auctioned off to raise money for the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company which owns the ponies. The ponies are also rounded up in the fall and spring when they are given vaccines and worm medicine. The ponies, about 150 of them, are divided into the southern and northern herds that roam the ranges on Assateague Island This photograph was taken by one of the student staff members of www.wildponytales.info, the online magazine that covers Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. The photo was taken with a Canon lens on a Canon Digital Rebel Xti camera. The print was made on Canon Pixma Pro9500 professional ink jet printer using 10 individual pigment ink colors and produces extraordinary vivid images. With pigment ink, photographers can print incredibly smooth gradations and can create long-lasting prints that resist the damaging effects of light for up to 100 years.
