1. I have been visiting Chincoteague/Assateague Islands since 1978. My husband and I got married there in 1997!!! The Assateague Lighthouse has always been a favorite of mine and I have many pictures of it throughout the years. Love the Islands!!! But I do have a question…in recent years, I am sorry to see that it needs painted…aren’t there any funds??? Just curious…thanks!!!

2. Chincoteague Natural History Association is raising money for the lighthouse to be painted. Many renovations were done in 2010/2011 to preserve the integrity of the structure. The last project, which is very coastly, is the painting. It is last because it is for aesthetics and not for the actual preservation of the building. It should be painted within the year is what I last heard. The lighthouse tours, grants, and fundraisers along with the tours are providing the funds for the lighthouse repairs and painting.
